There are heating equipment manufacturers offering ‘full’ 12 year labor warranty on their equipment. In essence they are making a promise that your installing contractor will have to keep (or not), as no homeowner ever buys equipment directly from the manufacturer.
Have you been shocked by the hourly rate you pay to a technician on a recent servicing call? Our rates are not quite at the $200 per hour rate, but many in our industry are (whether you know it or not due to flat rate pricing). However, when all costs of business are factored in, this rate is not as outrageous as it seems.
Seems like all HVAC manufacturers and contractors are trying to up-sell more expensive systems that cost thousands of dollars more than the ‘basic builders model’? Is the added cost for this warranted? The simplest and most expedient answer is ‘maybe yes, maybe no’.
"My first contact was with Leslie, she was knowledgeable and examined the existing system, gave ball park recommendations. When Rich came out to examine the duct work in the crawlspace he found several issues that he was able to fix. The estimate was fair and complete. I left for 3 months and returned to a quiet comfortable operating heat pump and have had no problems. Periodic maintenance is scheduled."
